Privacy policy
At a glance
Odys does not create its own accounts, include advertising, analytics or telemetry tools, or send your audio files to the publisher. Local playback remains available without a purchase or a Google account connection. A Google Drive profile backup and a Supporter purchase through Google Play are offered only when you request them.
Data stored on your device
The application locally stores the folders you select, information extracted from audio files, cached cover art, playback progress, bookmarks, preferences, listening statistics, companion data, metadata edits and downloaded LibriVox books. This data is used solely to operate the application.
Depending on your device and Google account settings, Android may back up or transfer certain preferences allowed by Odys' Android Auto Backup rules. Audio files, downloaded books and selected folders are not included in this backup. You can disable Android backup in system settings, delete downloaded books in the application and erase local data through Android settings or by uninstalling Odys.
File access and notifications
You select the audio folders that Odys may access through Android's document picker. The application requests persistent read-only access solely to the selected folders. On applicable Android versions, notification permission enables background playback controls.
Optional Google Drive backup
If you choose to connect a Google account and start a backup, Odys requests the limited drive.appdata permission and stores the odys-profile-backup.json file in the application's private Google Drive storage. This backup may contain your settings, companion data and progress, book progress, bookmarks and listening statistics. It does not contain audio files, imported folders or the Supporter entitlement.
Google processes the information required for authentication, the temporary authorisation token, transferred data and technical connection information under its own terms. Odys does not receive your Google password. A new backup replaces the previous one and remains in the application's private storage until it or the associated app data is deleted. You can revoke Odys access in your Google Account security settings. To delete the private backup, use the app data management or deletion controls provided by Google Drive, or contact Odys support if you need assistance.
Supporter purchase through Google Play
Odys offers an optional one-time Supporter purchase. When you view, purchase or restore this product, Google Play processes your payment account, local price, transaction status and identifier, and the necessary technical information. Odys receives only the product and transaction information needed to verify the purchase and stores locally whether the Supporter entitlement is unlocked; the application does not receive or store your payment card details. Google Play controls payment, receipt, refund and related retention practices.
Other optional network connections
Playback of local files remains available without Internet access. When you use the relevant features, Odys may connect to:
- Apple Books / iTunes Search API and Open Library: optional searches for title, author, description and genre. The title and, when available, the author's name are included in the request. Useful results may be cached on the device.
- LibriVox: catalogue lookup and audiobook download only after you request it. Files are stored locally.
As with any Internet connection, these services necessarily receive technical information such as the IP address and user agent. Their own policies govern their processing. Network exchanges are encrypted in transit using HTTPS where supported by the relevant service. Odys does not send this data to a server operated by its publisher.
This website
This static website sets no first-party cookies and uses no forms or audience measurement. It is hosted by GitHub Pages; GitHub may process technical connection data under its privacy statement.
Your choices and requests
Google Drive and Supporter features are optional. Refusing or revoking Google Drive access does not prevent local playback or local profile export. For questions about privacy, a backup or a purchase, email odys.contact@proton.me. Most data described above remains on your device or is processed directly by Google and therefore cannot be accessed by the publisher.
